Floats, Flashers & Boards

This category contains Rob Allen spearfishing floats, boards, flashers and dry storage: rigid hard floats, foam-injected floats, Hypalon and drop-stitch inflatables, Banks Board float boards, Bait Ball, Spinner and Combo Chain flashers, floatline bungees and waterproof dry boxes.

A float marks your position for boats, holds your catch and gives you a buffer when a large fish runs.

Choosing a spearfishing float and flasher setup

Float types

Rigid hard floats in 7 and 12 L have a tough polyethylene shell and come hollow or foam-filled; the 12 L hatch version adds a storage cavity and a small dive flag. Foam-injected floats are filled with PU foam that sets into a closed-cell structure for greater crush resistance when a fish drags the float under. The Remora inflatable is made from Hypalon in 11, 20 and 35 L, and the Skate 25 L drop-stitch float packs down for travel. The Banks Board is a large polyethylene board, the hatch version with a sealed central compartment, for long sessions and carrying two guns.

Floatlines and bungees

A bungee between float and line absorbs shock when a fish fights. The 3-Stretch Floatline Bungee stretches to three times its length with a 270 kg Dyneema safety line, in 1 to 15 m lengths. The 6 mm Bluewater Bungee is listed under Speargun Spares.

Flashers

Flashers reflect light and vibrate to draw predatory fish closer. Rob Allen recommends a working depth of about 6 to 12 m for the Spinner and Combo Chain flashers, deployed from a Flash Float with its built-in line winder or the foam-filled Puppy Dog float. Stainless swivel clips are in Marine Hardware.
