A dive knife is a safety tool first: it cuts line and lets you dispatch fish quickly.
How to choose a Rob Allen dive knife
Blade size and shape
Compact knives are easier to carry and less likely to snag. The Dentex is a one-piece knife in Japanese AUS 8 stainless steel with a stiletto tip for quick dispatching. The X-Blade has a 105 mm blade and textured rubber handle. The X-Blade 2 has a 180 mm dagger blade, a low-profile build that reduces snagging and an extractor in the handle to help free stuck shafts.
Sheath and mounting
The Dentex comes with a Rob Allen Pancake sheath that grips the blade by friction and mounts on an arm or leg strap. The X-Blade 2 sheath fits the calf or forearm. Spare elastic straps with stainless buckles fit X-Blade, Dentex and Cobia sheaths. You can also mount a knife on your belt from Weights & Weight Belt.
Care
Rinse the knife and sheath in fresh water after every dive and dry them. The Grewia has a 420 stainless steel blade and disassembles for cleaning. More gear is in The Gadget Shop.
